In short, cruise ship changed for next year by the cruise company. Sent confirmation booking for replacement cabins that we were more than happy with. Now they are say allocated in error and offered lessor option. Just wondered where we stand legally?

You don't have any legal entitlement to anything better than you have originally booked and paid for. It would seem the upgraded cabin was stated in error and that error has been corrected. From the wording of your post it seems that you are still being offered some form of upgrade.
