Letter Before Action to the landlord.
    No need for a solicitor.
Stick to the deposit return and penalty for non protection.
The other issues you mention are history now.

The Landlord should return the deposit within 10 working days so upto 14 days after the tenancy has ended.
If the Landlord wants to make deductions for damage or missing items/furniture then the need to prove this.
If the Landlord has failed to protect the deposit within 30 days then he/she can't make any deductions or serve am S21 to evict the tenant.
Letter before action demanding the whole deposit
