Pushchair from Argos

I purchased a pushchair from Argos less than 30 days ago, I’m not happy with the product and my daughter doesn’t sit right (only 10 months) but she’s quite big/long, she struggles to nap as it doesn’t lay flat (and other reason)
In regards with Argos return policy they don’t do returns if used.
I thought most items purchased there is a 30 day refund policy/cooling off period?
How would I know if I purchased this item that it wouldn’t be the one I wanted? (The previous pushchair I had I gave to my younger sister she just had a baby and didn’t know she was pregnant and I wasn’t going out much due to lockdown, the one after that the brake bar bent/broke and the lock to collapse it broke was cheap and off eBay, so I needed one so when I purchased the pushchair I’m asking about I carried my daughter all the way to Argos and put her in it there and then)
Is there any way around this to return it considering it’s been less than 30 days? Hardly used (maybe 5 times) and I have also taken our insurance on the pushchair.

Many thanks.

If Argos were willing to accept it being returned, they'd be entitled to make a reduction to a refund to reflect the fact that it's been used, if the original packaging is missing/destroyed/damaged, etc.  The question to ask yourself is: Would I be happy paying full price for this if I knew someone else had used it exactly as I have?

All the features you describe that make it unsuitable were things you could have reasonably tried out in store, so as I see it, Argos don't have to accept it back at all if their policy says they exclude used baby items or something like that.

Have you actually tried to return it?  If so, what did Argos say?  If they refused to take it back, your options are to keep it and make do, adapt it to make it comfortable or sell it on and put the proceeds towards a replacement.

Hardly used - 5 times - means that it would fall outside of the scope of a standard return. If you'd ordered it, taken it out of the packaging to look at, decided it wasn't suitable, and put it straight back in the box, then it would be 'still as new' and could be returned as such.

Argos have the right, if they did accept the return to only partially refund - and they also have the right to decide what that value would be. So if the pushchair was £100 - they might refund £20 based on the current condition, as they'll probably have to resell it via a third party seller, being used as it is.

Most likely the best scenario would be to sell it locally, and put your funds towards a new pushchair - then go into a store and try one out before buying.

There is no 30day cooling off period for you to try out your new purchase and then get a refund.

It appears you bought in store so you have no statutory right to any return, only Argos policy returns, and if they don’t do returns on used then you have no right to one.

If your old one was suitable, the one you gave to your sister, then why not give your sister this new one and get your old suitable pushchair back.
  • OP if you purchased online there is a 14 day cooling off period in most cases beginning the day after the goods came in to your possession.

In that instance a reduction may be imposed (if the correct information is provided) for diminished value if handling goes beyond what may be possible in a shop, the 80% suggested above may be excessive when exercising your right to cancel, an idea of secondhand prices may give you some guidance on a suitable refund amount.

If you are outside this time-frame or purchased in store then, as Katrina says, there isn't a statutory right for them to accept change of mind returns beyond any return policy they happened to offer at the time of sale.

For our kid we purchased a new Polish branded buggy off eBay (located in the UK) for about £300, it was at least half the price of fancy UK models to the same spec and decent quality.
