Loveholidays query

Lots of threads on this company, but I can't seem to find an exact answer to my query.
We have a holiday booked to Rhodes at the end of August. Made the booking, but that is the only communication I have had from Loveholidays. I emailed the hotel we are due to stay at with some queries about room type and a baby cot, and they replied to say they are closed for the rest of the year. Cue panic. This hotel is where my wife and I got engaged, so it was very much a trip down memory lane type of holiday. We would not want to stay anywhere else on the island so I am not interested in a different hotel.
As has been discussed loads on this forum getting in touch with Loveholidays is virtually impossible. I have tried their online live chat facility almost every half an hour since Monday, and it is never available.
My questions that I hope someone can help with are:
1. As the hotel we wanted is no longer available, are Loveholidays obligated to cancel the whole trip or are we stuck in some kind of trap where we are forced to accept an alternative from them?
2. We have only paid a small deposit of £120. £2000 is due in two weeks, but I am loathed to pay this. Having spoken to my bank they have suggested cancelling the booking card. Are there any ramifications of doing this? Will Loveholidays hound me for payment even though it is not the trip I originally booked?

Even if you cancel your credit card they can still claim the money and the card company will chase you for the money. Will Loveholidays not contact you nearer the date of your holiday and then you can sort it out.
You should read the terms and conditions you agreed to when you purchased the holiday ,these will tell you what their policy is on alternative accommodation etc.0
