Personally I would be returning these to the retailer that you have a contract with ie John Lewis. You have no contract with Apple at all. I would be arguing that they have failed within a short period of time through no misuse on your part. They clearly are not 'fit for purpose'. I would be very surprised if JL dismissed your return on this basis.

Name a company that does not have some defective products.

if you don’t like Apple products that’s cool and buy what you like but don’t try and claim that Apple somehow makes worse products than others. Simple free markets and customer satisfaction will decide if a company will remain in business. Apple and other big brand manufacturers know what they’re doing when it comes to producing well designed products that they think their customers like.
It is not about a defective problem. For years now many companies have solved issues with waterproofing phones. To make a sporting product and not waterproof and add a little shock (knock) resistance is as bad an an umbrella that you cant use in the rain. You just can't keep using the same excuse year after year and not fix the problem, and keep blaming the user unless it is a reuse to fleece customers. Their laptops are just as bad for spills too.

Did you see what it took to open that box. I would put money on it they did not even open the electronics, and if you don't open it you should not just guess and claim water damage off the bat.

Like anything if you go looking you will find some fault with customer service or a product from any company. Apple is a successful company just like all other companies that make and sell stuff to consumers and make a profit at the end of the year which allows them to continue for the next year and to create new products.

I think you are misrepresenting the situation, or have just not understood the issue.

The OP wore their headphones and they got sweaty.  The OP put the sweaty, wet headphones back into the non-waterproof case without drying them off. The sweat then broke the charging case meaning the OP now can’t charge one of their headphones because the case is broken due to water ingress.  That means one of the headphones has a flat battery with no way to recharge it.

The case has no water resistance. You should dry off the headphones before putting them in the charging case.

Also warranties will NOT cover any sort of water damage.

As I said it’s ok not to buy something from a company if you don’t like their products or what they stand for. That’s called being a individual who has freedom of choice but to go on and try and claim a company makes inferior products or their customers are blind and unwilling to see what you see comes off a tad judgemental and unable to let others make choices because they don’t fit your own personal perspective on things.
