Problems with landlord after failed smoke alarm

So as an update, the alarm company came on Monday and found there was a faulty battery (tamper proof) in the smoke alarm which was somehow messing around with the interconnect causing the heat alarm to sound, he had to disconnect and reconnect both alarms multiple times to figure it out. New battery installed and will be testing them weekly from now on as per manufacturer's instructions for my own safety. So in this case my actions didn't result in any cost to the landlord, does make me wondering whether they were actually tested properly before I moved in...
