Cancellation of flight by Airline, then redirected to Future Travel Voucher Page without knowledge

Hi, today I received an email from the Airline cancelling a flight to San Francisco from Heathrow, in the email they asked me to go to Manage my Booking, which I duly did. On this page I was offered a couple of options one of them being Cancel. (This page was a dynamic page so when I tried to revisit it to get information it was unavailable).  I pressed CANCEL, then I was redirected to a page (NOT CHOSEN BY ME) which was a form for a Future Travel Voucher.  I did not take in the title of the form and duly filled it out and submitted it.  I immediately realized my mistake and telephoned the Airline customer service.  I was informed that it was not possible to 'change my mind' regarding the future vouchers.  I am angry because I selected the CANCEL option for the flight, which I expected to take me to a refund page.
I am also not able to obtain a refund for our return flight from LA as it is still 'live'.  Due to the cancellation by the Airline, of our outbound flight we will not be there to catch the inbound flight home and we are not prepared to pay the cancellation fees.
Has anyone else had this problem?  Thank you in advance for any advise.

British Airways. There's a lot of chat on the flyer talk forums and various blogs about this trick, might be worth reading there, in not sure if anyone's had any success or not in getting a cash refund.

If your LA return flight was on the same booking as the outbound then you're entitled to a refund on that leg too.
