Aylesbury_Duck said:I've no statistics to back it up, but in my area we've had an awful lot of road re-surfacing work in recent years, much of which results in long stretches of previously NSL roads having loose chippings and temporary 20mph limits. Almost no one obeys these so there are chippings flying about all over the place. Add to that the general state of roads which are breaking up or being badly filled and you have the conditions for an increase in windscreen chips and cracks which might account for your anecdotal increase.
Our roads are fairly narrow and windy but have lots of tractors, HGVs, dump trucks and skip lorries hurtling down them - if they meet another oncoming large vehicle they have to move over and then pick up lots of debris from the edge of the road as there's no proper kerb edge to the road. The edge of the road breaks up, and forms lots of little pot holes that then provide ammunition for stone strikes. The last 2 chips have been from large wheeled vehicles flicking up stones on bends - not the fault of any drivers, just seems to be a lot more loose materials on the road which increases the risk.0 -
I changed a windscreen in the late 80's, that's the only one in 50 years of driving.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
