Was the conveyancer the cheapest quote you found? For the most expensive purchase of your life? I only ask because I believe conveyor belt companies rarely have your own interests at heart. The agent might be doing you a favour without trying to sell you their own contacts.
I've always used bricks and mortar solicitors in my property transactions. Several times they have saved me their fee many times over in advice concerning the deal that I very much doubt a remote online firm would have done (multiple dwelling relief being the most recent).

The EA doesn't 'like' your conveyancing probably because they missed out on a potential fee if you used their own conveyancing services.  We went with EA only because vendor wanted a quick sale so by going with the EA conveyancing services, any delays would be on them and so far, albeit we've had to chase up from time to time, overall, it's progressing in the right direction.

The EA isn't acting on your behalf, he/she is acting on the vendors behalf so that they get paid.
    Therefore, the advice is irrelevant.

Out of interest - what type of conveyancer have you chosen? Is it one of the online conveyancing factories? Some of them do seem to have poor reputations.
Yes, it is an online one - MyHomeMove. A family member used them without complaint and their online reviews, whilst mixed like all of them, are on the whole very positive.
Do you have the referee link where each of us get £100+VAT?

The estate agent has a point !

My Home Move use Premier Property Lawyers. Do a search for them on this forum -  that will tell you all you need to know.
Gee that's a name that still makes me shake, Premier Property Lawyers.  I would run quickly away.
A mate used them recently, from what he told me they were actually very thorough, even though they raised issues that he was happy to ignore and just wanted the sale to happen quickly, I pointed out that they were doing a good job in making sure he understood and was happy with various issues.

I am currently using MyHomeMove, as a high street conveyancer I have used multiple times now works for them. The irony is that we have wasted a considerable amount of time waiting for the so-called superior high street firms to provide information. It may depend on who is allocated to your case, but I can highly recommend James Summerfield.

I've had one (abortive) sale where the purchaser was using Premier Property Lawyers. She was getting really stressed because her named conveyancer didn't respond to emails or keep her updated, and after a couple of months it got to the point where she went into the offices of MY solicitor to see if he could shed any light. Of course he wasn't able to supply her with the information directly, but I agreed to pass on his emails to me so at least she knew what was going on.

Second time round, my purchaser was getting divorced, the purchase was dependent on the sale of the family home - and her ex-husband was using Premier Property Lawyers. Long story short, they held up the entire chain for weeks when everyone else was ready to go - again, failing to respond to emails and requests. I have on good authority that the EA sales progressor was spending hours on the phone trying to get hold of them.

If you look around this site, you will see that this is not at all unusual. THAT'S probably why the EA doesn't want to deal with them. There are also anecdotal reports of high street solicitors charging more if the other party's using them - anticipating the delays and additional hassle.
