Puddleglum said:My August budget has been well and truely bust. Not just on the food side where I probably haven't gone over too badly but on every front which meant that I stopped recording what I was spending.
My 3 year old car popped its head gasket on the motorway a couple of weeks ago. Everything worked out fine thanks to the kindness of strangers but the car is still in garage intensive care 60 odd miles away waiting for a new engine. Lots of money was spent out on things like train fares that hadn't been budgeted for.

Declaring at £114.60/£140. £25.40 to carry forward to Sept.
Good morning All.
As mentioned above, I’m declaring and will roll £25.40 over to September. The surplus is primarily because we never did the planned “big shop” in MrT’s, although the L!dl £5 off voucher helped, too. I’m hoping that when we finally do go to MrT’s, they’ll have some special offers back. We could do with stocking up on chopped tomatoes and on tinned sweetcorn. I may also add another 10kg sack of chapatti flour to the list, since we’re almost ready to start the second storage box from the last sack (we split them into 2 x 5kg Lock-n-Lock boxes). There’s a problem, though: the pan for our bread machine has started leaking water but it can’t be replaced. I’ve contacted the manufacturer and they no longer make replacements. We may have to buy a new bread machine - such a waste, since it’s still working beautifully. (Note to self: buy a second pan and paddle, when you buy the replacement.)
We’re planning to go shopping tomorrow in L!dl, but that’ll count as September. DH is going to download the new L!dl+ app and claim another £5-off-when-you-spend-£25 voucher. Fresh-veg-wise, we’re down to about 300g mushrooms, one onion, 4 spring onions, a carrot and two green peppers, so need to stock up on fresh veg which will help us get to the £25 threshold.

Hey folks. I had one last spend at Whole Foods last week for various fruit, yoghurt and two sandwich wraps that became meals for a couple days. It was after a sobering doctor’s appointment and I knew I couldn’t muster the energy to cook. That spend totaled $31.22. I’m definitely over for August. By more than $95. 😬 My toiletries stock up and a few extravagances really did me in. Toiletries and San pro should last me the next 6 months though. See you on the September thread!$395.21 / $300.00

Where can I find September please? Thank you- At the top of your screen (on my PC it is below the solid navy bar under the picture of Martin) is the address "Forum Home>> Old Style Money Saving" If you click there it is normally pinned to the top of the list of Old Style threads.
- Also elsiepac puts up a link in the post where she announces it (so if you page back a screen or two, you will find it)
- Or you could go to page 1, click on elsiepac, then look at the threads she has started

Did a last minute shop today. Mostly stuff I'll use next month but wanted to have a look round Morrisons as I was near by (which is rare!). That brings me to... £156.20 out of a possible £167.40 (so £11.20 under). Will possibly put the underspend towards some food storage containers / baskets etc to make the most of the tiny amount of storage I have in my kitchen.Well done everyone and see you on the Sept challenge thread!Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!
