Travel Insurance refund

I booked medical travel insurance for a cruise and stay for myself and my friend last November. We are both in our 70's and paid with separate debit cards. The cruise was due to sail at the end of September by Tui, but has been cancelled. We sent separate emails to the insurance company ( the only way), telling them that we would no longer need the policies, and requested a refund for the cost of the policy. We included a PDF file showing proof of cancellation. The insurance company has only paid me 50% of the policy, and my friend is still waiting for a response.

50% is a very good result, given you've already have cover for nine months cover, with only two months remaining.
Worth mentioning who is it, as good customer service should be acknowledged.0 -
The cruise was departing 26/09/2020 for eleven days on a single trip. That is what the policy covered, so to me having the cover for nine months is irrelevant. The company is Go2 Travel Insurance.Deleted_User said:50% is a very good result, given you've already have cover for nine months cover, with only two months remaining.

There's costs with setting up the policy, sales commission etc to consider - in these circumstances you wouldn't be entitled to and shouldn't expect a full refund.1

Your opinion is irrelevant in this case. At any point in that 9 months the insurance was covering you and you could have made a claim for terminal illness etc...Greenveg123 said:

Put it this way. If you bought an annual car insurance policy and 9 months in you demanded a refund, would you expect 100% of it back? It is no different, the insurance covers you from the moment you booked the holiday. Take the 50%.2 -
If you had an accident and broke a leg 2 weeks before travel, would you have expected the insurance to say "tough, your cover does not start for another two weeks?"Greenveg123 said:The cruise was departing 26/09/2020 for eleven days on a single trip. You would have a case, if that was true.Greenveg123 said:

But it's not, so you don't.
However, it's good that they provided such excellent customer service. I'll consider them for future insurance.0 -
Checkmate. That will be the last we see of the OP, methinks.Caz3121 said:

I’m sorry you feels it’s irrelevant that you haven’t had to use the cover up until now but actually that’s just luck as anything could have happened to you from taking out the policy until this point and I’m sure you would have expected to make a relevant claim in those circumstances.50% refund is not to be sniffed at most insurance companies would have rejected the request outright.0

My logic may be wrong, but as I have stated I booked the insurance last November, the same time that booked the cruise. It was for a single trip, not an annual policy. I was thinking that the policy only covered insurance for the dates on the single trip.0
