Travel insurance paid out but now being told a refund is available

We were due to holiday in Thailand in April (partner, elderly father in law and myself)  STA refused to provide a refund and offered a travel voucher. We did not accept this due to my Father in law being elderly and unfortunately he will not longer be going  abroad in the near future, so a credit voucher was pointless for him. My partner lost his job, so again going aboard not a priority. My travel insurance paid out for my part of the holiday (thankfully)  but I obviously had to pay the excess. STA have today decided that we are entitled to a full refund!! Great as both my partner and father in law will be reimbursed... as for myself as I have already claimed, STA are telling me to pay back my travel insurer and accept the refund... has anyone experienced this?? Surely STA can just cover the cost of my excess. Talk bout a mess.

I'd agree with STA. If they are refunding then you should pay back your insurer. I'd get in touch with the insurance and ask them.

Wait for the refund from STA
Then contact your travel insurance (by letter....) to ask what to do.
When they reply asking for some money back, tell them they can have a voucher.for Argos for the amount you owe them.
