Major issues with Nationwide Faster Payments at present

It seems Nationwide have forgotten how to send Faster Payments on time through Internet Banking.  Sent 3 FPs to my Amex, Mbna and Barclaycard cards on Monday  - cards to which I’ve paid before from NW a trillion times - but only the Barclaycard payment has arrived , and even then 1 day late (Barclaycard payment was setup to leave my account on 21st but left this morning on 22nd). I suspect these are lingering issues from their FP outage last week.

Worst of all, when I called NW this morning they refused to admit anything was wrong with their systems. Will be moving back to FirstDirect, who whilst being far from perfect , can at least do the basic stuff right like sending payments on time. Only moved from FD to NW to use their FlexPlus insurance as it’s a good deal for £13/m. But it’s not worth it if NW can’t at least provide a working online banking service.

Anyway bye bye Nationwide, welcome back First Direct :)

It does sound they are having issues since most of the time payments are pretty much instant, but FP aren't actually guaranteed to be instant - I believe they are only guaranteed to arrive by the end of the following business day, which from what you've said sounds about what has actually happened. By all means switch away if you're not happy - that's why CASS was developed - but personally if you're making use of the insurance then I'd keep the account open since it's decent value to some. You can always move your day to day banking elsewhere yourself.

If you don't have an active FD account at present, you will have to wait until they are accepting new customers.

^^^ I already have a live FD account, I didn’t do an account switch when moving over to NW from FD.

Anyway the payments from NW have finally reached my Amex and MBNA accounts this afternoon- more than 48hrs after they were sent on Monday. So clearly there was something wrong at NW’s end.

dont know why yours was delayed or delays could have been going on earlier today but sent FP from Nationwide around 16:11 and it got to it's destination account at another bank before i was able to login online into that other account which was a couple of mins after sending it from Nationwide.

Could also be a issue at the receivers end and processing to the correct account.

Possible but highly unlikely considering both MBNA & Amex use different systems and its too much of a coincidence for it to happen to 2 CC accounts simultaneously.
