Moneydashboard alternatives

I'm pretty frustrated with Money Dashboard, I have been using it for about 5 years and in the last 6 months it has gone from very good to almost useless.

I don't think it is all their fault, the switch to open banking seems to have caused them a lot of problems, there was a month where they didn't support my main bank account and credit card, then it showed positive balance on my credit card for another month. Then they duplicated all my transactions and now they are missing a lot of transactions (and occasionally duplicating transactions still).

The new Neon dashboard they launched seems to be them falling into a common trap (launching an app with 10% of the functionality of an old app and hoping people will switch). I guess that is why they haven't addressed all of the problems I've been experiencing, they have moved their dev team onto new and shiny vs maintaining existing customers.

To use the new dashboard I have to set up a new account and re-tag all my old transactions. So that means there is a chance to switch to something new.

It is causing my quite a lot of frustration as I also use it to manage my business expenses, so missing transactions are a huge problem. So what are the alternatives?

Thanks, I did before I posted. The threads were relatively old and the only alternative mentioned was Yolt (which doesn't really seem to be an alternative because it is just an iphone app)

You haven’t really explained what you want in an alternative. I assume from your posts you won’t consider any that are app-only, but are there any other considerations?

Yes that is true, really what I'm looking for is:
    • Automated bank feeds (that work)
    • Being able to tag transactions with a type
    • My strong preference is web based, mainly because if I do a few hundred transactions in a month then its a pain tagging them in an app. Also for doing the historical transactions, it is a pain in an app.
    • Being able to view historical transactions by type, by month etc.
    • Once a month I export business expenses usually in CSV.
I mainly use Moneydashboard for its historical features rather than its budgeting features.

I suspect the services that were earliest to switch over to open banking and earliest to iron out problems with connections probably tend to be app-only services. I use Emma and it switched over a long time ago. There were some early reliability issues with some of their open banking connections but I think they've now been sorted. It might be that Money Dashboard classic sorts out reliability issues given a bit of time.

For other services with web access:
Moneyhub may be worth a look if you have not previously tried it.
Perhaps maybe spendee as well. I haven't tried myself but seems to have a web portal.

Longer term, what might work best for you is Money in Excel. Not web-based but desktop-based. Unfortunately not yet available in UK

Yes, Moneydashboard is going through a frustrating period but I sticking with them for now. Most of the current problems are caused by banks not having their APIs operational. Most of my accounts are now available but there are still a couple which are lagging.

I've been using MS Money for many years and have a huge amount of historic data in there but I now only use it to track investments. For a 20 year old application it has stood the test of time but it is now looking out of date in an age of Open Banking and cloud services. For day to day spending Moneydashboard is mostly better.

Is it worth doing this for personal expenses or only business expenses? For personal I just export to excel to track my savings progress and then keep a separate one to track total wealth across all accounts, when I reach my FIRE number I want to be able to look back and see how I did it.

A key feature of any personal finance tool to do budget tracking that models real life is the ability to do do split transactions to multiple categories.

That is a single entry on an account(money out) that was used on multiple categories of spending.
