Is it ok to turn sky mini box off when away as it get very hot .

As above, perfectly fine. It'll just automatically reconnect to the Sky Q box when you turn it back on just the same as your laptop connects to the wifi when you turn that back on.

If you are worried it will cause a fire (just how hot is it getting?! ) then switch it off at night, not just when you go away.

Better the house burns down when you arent in it rather than sleeping at night I'd say.

But first call Sky and ask  how hot it can/should get? Maybe you are worrying unnecessarily or maybe you have a bad one?

They do run very hot, almost to the point of being able to barely touch them. The Mini's get hotter than the main box even though there is no spinning disk although they are of a smaller footprint so not as much air circ.

If the mini has lost its connection to the main box for too long it will just need a quick re-pair when turned back on.
