Working whilst on furlough/notice of redundancy

Hi guys,
in need of some real help. I am currently on furlough but have accepted another job at another employer. My current employer has said that they will make me redundant to help me out as I have been there 10 years and we get on really well.

My redundancy notice period is 11 weeks and my current employer is under the impression that I cannot start my new job whilst under furlough/notice of redundancy conditions.

Is this right as I am due to start my new job on August 3rd and I am now really worried about what this means.

There is nothing in the furlough rules that prevent you doing another job while furloughed. You could even be furloughed from two jobs at once.

I am not aware of anything that would prevent you starting your new job while on notice, except what is in your contract of employment, which you can vary by agreement. What would normally happen is that your employer would pay you in lieu. They would not recover that under the furlough scheme though.
