self employed payment

I have been self employed 32 years
I applied for self employment help because of coronavirus ,I was told I was not eligible for a payment I appealed on the grounds of ill health ( depression)  my appeal was looked into by HMRC and a very friendly lady rang .me and said my case had been looked into and there was nothing they could do let me explain , the years that HMRC took into account were tax years 2016/2017 2018/2019, these years are was off my self employed work because of severe depression , but I did earn a small income from a PAYE job I have had for many years on a very part time  basis it was only a few hours now and again, because that income outweighed my self employed income I was entitled to nothing,  I am fully re covered now and had already submitted my  figures for tax year 2019/ 2020 I did this the second  week of April, where my self-employed income fully outweighed my small PAYE job , but this year didn't come into it , I was told , the other 28 years I paid my tax in full didn't matter, i must say I am fully confused , I will probably not pay another   penny tax forever!!!!!

HMRC have no discretion as to what profits they look at. They can only look at 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19, as you say. They could not use 2019/20 because these figures are open to change, as they do not have to be filed until 31 January 2021.

It's a bit silly declaring you're never going to pay tax when your username makes it very easy to identify you.

Unfortunately, rules are rules and the criteria has been set, there's nothing at all you can. Not paying tax every again? and where do you think that's going to get you?

Wesley Snipes tried it, and ended up in jail.
