I want to get and administer a prepaid credit or debit card for elderly father

My elderly father (92) sadly keeps falling for scammers and con merchants and persuaded to hand over his card details. He has just lost £3K in 3 months.  I am trying to get him a prepaid card, which I can load and administer, but which will still give him some autonomy to make card purchases, within safe limits!  I cannot find a provider that let’s me do this.  I see it is possible to open and account and get an additional Reloadable prepaid Mastercard or Visa card for a child or teenager, but not for an elderly relative.  Surely many people need this?  Please help if anyone can tell me where I can this.

Surely you could achieve something similar with a basic bank account + debit card, without overdraft etc., and restrictions on where the card will be accepted? Barclays app allows a card to be restricted to deny things like fuel purchases, overseas spending, gambling etc.

Aside from the approach of controlling his ability to spend, is it worth looking at eliminating or reducing the problem at source by changing his phone number and/or email address?

I used a prepaid Cashplus card for a similar problem.

Just open a Starling account.  It comes with the option for an additional card which you can pre-load from the main account, as and when required.
