Hi all,
I have just checked my recent bill from EON and have seen my night kWh is extremely high compared to my daily usage.
day: 970
night: 3109
Is that normal?
Many thanks,

Welcome to the forum. It's impossible to answer because it depends on your usage. If you are all electric with storage heaters, immersion heaters used overnight, and you also use the washing machine and tumble dryer at night then your night usage will be relatively high. And if you have an EV...When sending meter readings, make sure you are not double counting by entering the total usage as the night reading.1

Thanks for your response, Gerry.
I have electric heaters (not storage) which only get used in the winter (not very often). Immersion is never turned off. I don't use the washing machine, tumble dryer at night.
I guess the the immersion being on constantly is contributing heavily to the usage.
Many thanks,0 -
Surely it's better for your night time consumption to be high? You're paying a fraction of the day rate for it. Your immersion heater should only ever be on at night, likewise, that's when your dishwasher and washing machine should be used.

Having the immersion heater permanently on makes no sense because it'll continually be topping up at expensive daytime rates. Similarly, if you use on-demand electric heaters they will cost a fortune (I assume you don't have gas).See this tale of woe about misreading meters. If you don't have storage heaters and don't use the tumble dryer at night, then why are you on E7 anyway? Single rate is likely to be cheaper. You don't even need to change the meter, many suppliers will just bill day and night at the same rate.Sadly, your set up seems to be about as wrong as it can possibly be !
BTW, is that a quarterly bill, and have you been sending meter readings reguarly?1 -
Presumably your immersion is wired in to the economy 7 circuit or has a timer so that it is only on at night. The vast majority of your night-time usage will be hot water. You don't mention the period the bill covers so it's hard to tell whether it all seems reasonable or not. In any case, if you want to reduce your usage, try reducing the amount of time the immersion is on for until you start running out of hot water. There's no point in heating water that you don't need.

Could we have some more info Sam please ?
Is this last month, last quarter - has it suddenly changed - and, dare I ask, is the bill based on Estimated readings ? \do you read your meter every month?
Give us the readings from the bill for the last months please and note the letters A, E and CNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Thanks all.
@Petriix - That bill covers 1 year - 1 bed flat, one occupant. I will look at getting a timer on the immersion to only heat up during the night.
Many thanks,0 -
That's really not too bad for a full year and, like I said, the immersion almost certainly is only coming on at night given that your night usage is so high in comparison to your day usage. A timer would help you reduce your usage further. Also consider switching supplier to see if anyone can offer you a cheaper Economy 7 rate. Put those figures in to a comparison site (apparently the CAB or the Which comparisons are most comprehensive). I assume that your bill is based on actual and not estimated readings.

Yes, the CA state that no one compares more UK energy suppliers (and in the unlikely event that cashback is available from the cheapest supplier(s) then you can always switch via another site). But expect a rocket from SamGrundy for daring to say so !Petriix said:(apparently the CAB or the Which comparisons are most comprehensive)

Would I be right in saying that my night usage is 76% of my overall usage?0
