Cruise & Maritime Voyages which operated a number of cruise liners and sold many ex UK cruise itineraries, has gone into administration.

They operated five ships  -  Marco Polo, Astor, Magellan, Columbus and Vasco Da Gama. They had also planned to add a further two ships into their fleet in 2021 - Amy Johnson and Ida Pfeiffer.

Very sad for all concerned but not the least bit surprising. The Maritime and Coastguard agency detained four of the five ships a month ago after the Indian crew hadn't been paid for months, were refused passage home after being on board for more than 12 months and went on hunger strike! I hope there are no other cruise lines in as big a mess as this, but cruising is going to take a long time to recover.

Sad to hear that - we were actually looking at a cruise on their new Amy Johnson ship (never got around to booking though).  Carnival and RCI have quite a few of their ships up for sale (across their brands).  I was very sad to hear that P&O has put Oceana up for sale - I had hoped we would get back onboard over the next few years.

Share price is rock bottom and may be a good speculative buy though - especially if they retain the shareholder onboard credit once they get back into business.

Their ships were ancient! Going to be harder for lines running old and inefficient ships to survive now.

One of the worst things about the cruise industry is the treatment of their staff, especially those from Asia doing much of the manual behind the scenes work.

Sad to see a cruise line go into administration.
I wonder how many passengers on Astoria realised it started its service as Stockholm in 1948 and collided with the Andrea Doria in July 1956, resulting in the latter sinking, with fatalities on both vessels ?

Very sad to see, but I suspect it won't be the last.

Pleasantly surprised to learn last week that Fred Olsen Cruise Lines have added 2 more ships to their fleet; Amsterdam & Rotterdam from Holland America Line. Obviously being part of a big conglomerate, based in Norway, has its advantages.

We've done several cruises with FOC and have one booked in November. Although their refund process for cancelled cruises earlier this year was frustrating due to communication problems, they did refund in full without any pressure to accept rebookings/vouchers. We'll definitely continue to cruise with them in future when its safe (safer?) to do so.

Cruise Critic punters saying that FO will soon be retiring a couple of their older ships, I think it's "Boudicca" and "Black Watch" - so these recent acquisitions from HAL is not really an expansion of their fleet.
