FURIOUS with the negligent, incompetent NHS

My daughter has several serious conditions, usually the care is amazing. 90% of the nurses are great, and all her consultants work extremely hard. However she went in for a major operation on her spine last year(age 2 1/2), the operation was successful and the itu nurses were great, once she was down on the ward it was a complete nightmare. They temporarily moved everyone to a new ward as they were in the middle of a reshuffle, which meant i couldnt stay with her at night because there was no room. There was a lovely 17yr old girl who had the same operation as my daughter on the same day, so she was very helpful and could let us know how she was feeling so i could get a better idea of how my daughter was feeling. About 3 days after her surgery they wanted her to get up and walk, but didnt give her any medication for the pain. According to the other girl she was still in agony!! My daughter couldnt even sit up because of the pain, i had to ask about 4 different people and it took over 3 hours, but eventually she got some pain relief. An hour later she was bright as a button and happily sitting up. I left that night and was promised she would get more pain relief during the night so she was comfortable. I arrived the next morning and she was soaking wet, no one had changed her since i left! She was also really grizzly so i asked the nurse when her last pain medication was given, and it was the dose from the previous afternoon that i'd had to badger them for:mad:
I dont understand how anyone with an ounce of compassion can leave a young child who's just had major surgery without any kind of pain management? It really upset me as the doctors had done a fantastic job, then the nurses just couldnt really be bothered? The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
hi,
I just wanted to say that i hope things get better for your mum and dad. I took a job as a cleaner at our local hospital and it was without a doubt the worst job i have ever had. I was expected to clean sinks with the same cloth that i cleaned the toilets with whilst also checking on meals. The smell from the ward was awful the training was a joke, two days of do this do that and then your left alone to do it. I was told to clean the nurses station by one cleaner then got yelled at by the nurse not to clean it.
I just couldn't cope i lasted one month than had to leave the smell, the state patients were left in i wasn't strong enough. I can't bear the smell of hospitals now and i am terrified of ever having to go in them again.
I really feel for you.

This statement is very very unfair. I am sorry for your (the OP's and all the other) bad experiences with the NHS and I feel that you should complain and demand answers but I will tell you why I think this statement is unfair....
....without the NHS my beautiful 5 year old daughter would not be here....
....without thw NH by beautiful 5 year old daughter would be open to a lifetime of being the butt of others jokes.
The NHS is the same as everywhere ~ it needs much work but you only ever hear about the bad stuff. Very rarely does someone come along and post the above.
Your opinion of the NHS will be reflective of the experienes you have had with them but the bigger picture must be looked at.
Yes, it needs a shake up but in the grand scheme of things, its really not too bad ~ why ~ because I have my baby!:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob!
