Hired in the UK, made redundant abroad - advice?

Options

Hello!
I'm in a tricky situation with my exit negotiations. I was hired for and worked for a company in the UK for four years, they moved me to the headquarters in Israel last year (this involved signing a new contract with the IL entity). I was made redundant two weeks ago, and they want to pay me redundancy as an IL employee, which will end up being taxed a relatively high amount. I think this is unreasonable, given that I was a UK employee for longer and I was, essentially, on a fixed term contract in Israel with the spoken offer that I could come back to the UK any time.

I have suggested that they rehire me in the UK and backdate my contract to the original start date in 2015 so I can receive my redundancy tax free, as I would have done had they not moved me abroad. They're digging their heels in about this, claiming that it's too complicated or will jeopardise their furloughed employees? or plans to make people redundant in the near future? They were deliberately vague with me. They don't have an HR professional in the UK to advise them on this, and so far seem unwilling to speak to an employment lawyer here to see whether it's feasible. It will cost them no more money but make a substantial difference to what I receive.

I have seen a precedent for this elsewhere on this forum, but it was from 2016, I was wondering if anyone here had encountered someone doing something similar and how difficult a process it is.

Thank you in advance!

If it is an Israeli based company and you signed a contract to work for the Israeli HO and you work at that HO in Israel, then I think Israeli employment law applies.  Spoken offers aren't worth the paper they're not written on

But do read your contract, very, very carefully, you never know what you might find!
