No fault claim via Auxillis

I got into an accident recently and I am 100% sure its not my fault.
The third party's van (front left corner) crashed into the side my car (towards the back). I knew that the 3rd party was going to try and put the blame to me because he refused to acknowledge he was at fault at all.
So some back story, I was waiting to turn right at a 4 way junction. The 3rd party was driving down the same road but on the opposite direction. Whilst I was waiting in the junction to turn , I did not see him. So I proceeded to turn, as I was about to finish my turn, this guy came crashing into me. He was approaching a junction where the traffic lights have been on green for some time. He should have anticipated the lights turning red any time and should have slowed down to stop. I think he was trying to run the lights as one of the eye witnesses at the scene there told me that ‘the lights were about to turn’ when the incident occurred. If it helps, it was raining and it was at 10:30pm.
He also refused to give me his insurance details and the police had to intervene to get me his details.
My insurer, Admiral, asked if I wanted to:
A) claim on the policy
Or:
claim using Auxillis as it is a no fault claim and there's no excess to pay etc as this company will take the risk in claiming against the third party's insurance. These guys will ONLY allow me to have my vehicle repaired at one of their pre approved garages and offer me a 'hire credit' courtesy car (whatever that means).
I chose option B....But now I am confused
I have a mechanic friend who told me that my car (Audi A1 2013) will probably be written off as its got big dent on the side with scratches will will need body and paint works which will cost around 6-7 grand to repair. I asked Auxillis what if this was the case, they said that they will give me money and take the car off me or I can have the car and get a lower amount of money. My friend said that if I choose to keep the car (which is what I'll do if it's written off, I am emotionally attached) , they will try to take away as much money as possible for the car. Is this true?
Should I have just chose to claim on my policy?
Thank you for your advise. Much appreciated.

From that it sounds like you turned right across the path of an oncoming car who had a green light. You admit you did not see this van before you turned across his path.
Sorry but I can't see any reason to hold the van at fault.
Let's turn this on its head. If you were going straight on through a green light and a car turned right across your path would you put your hand up an say sorry my fault.2 -
As above, it sounds like you turned right across the path of a correctly proceeding vehicle in which case you will be 100% to blame for the accident.
If you are going down the credit route you need to double check what you are signing up to and what happens in the event of liability not being favourable. Most simply swallow the cost as long as there has been no dishonesty however some will look to recover the monies.
If the vehicle is a total loss and you retain the salvage then they are entitled to reduce your settlement by the amount of money they would have gotten from selling the salvage. Most insurers and accident management companies of any decent size have fairly favourable terms with salvage companies. At the end of the day if you feel they are asking too much for the salvage you could choose not to keep it.
Each person will value a car slightly differently, human nature, though most use tools from Glasses there are still often ranges to pick from but intrinsically there is no reason why one company is going to be significantly more or less generous than the next.1 -

The Van driver does not need to slow down in case you drive into him without looking.
