Credit Card Refusal

Options
I have applied for a credit card with Santander and have been refused. I wanted to balance transfer from a previous credit card.  I checked my credit file and my score was excellent and there are no issues. Has anyone else had this problem recently? When I asked them why they would not tell me reason and said I needed to complain to Ombudsman.

You need to check the data on your files, not the scores.

There's no point in complaining to FOS.

Even if they did tell you it would something meaningless like 'you don't come into our demographic of who we are looking for at this time' - and that is all they have to say. As you have already been advised you have no case to take to the Ombudsman.
Going forward what can you do? Firstly check the 3 main CRA 's to see if there is anything untoward on there. Secondly go to one of the credit card checkers to see if any pop up as a potential card that you can apply for.

If nobody wants to give you a card perhaps visit the debt free wanabe board, upload a statement of income and expenditure to see where you can save money to put towards what you owe now.

Wrong sort of customer, as in they don't think they'll make any money out of you

My son needs help getting himself out of debt.  He has been on furlough since March and has just gone back to work.  He has an overdraft of £1500 but cannot get a 0% credit card to cover this as he has a bad credit rating.  I used your calculator which said he had 0% chance of getting a card.  He had a heart attach in July which has brought him to his senses.  How can he cover the overdraft so he doesn't pay the 40% interest as this would effect him badly in trying to sort his finances out.  He is trying so hard.  He is 42 and pays child maintenance.

He needs to cut costs and gradually get out of the OD.

He's not going to get a 0% offer with his current circumstances.
