Sky Q off at night

I have been told not to turn new sky q and BB off at night and to leave it 24/7. I am so used of switching everything off before I go to bed. This is a habit I find difficult to break due to being elderly and old habit difficult to change. The reasons are I am concerned about the heat the equipments generate and I can hear the sky q fan humming. Will this practice of mine stop sky q updating when it is switched off. I turn everything on when up. Thanks

Its designed to be left on on standby, amber light showing. Turning off at wall means it has to boot up again every time you want to use it. It uses very little power on standby1

Important software updates take place overnight, when the box is in standby. Let it do what it's designed to do.1

Leave it on, and just make sure that nothing is blocking any fans on the device.0

Reminds me of my Father-in-Law.......On a visit he complained how tired he was, on further questioning we found out that he had set the new PVR to record a late night programme and had to wait up until it finished recording, so that he could turn it off for the night.
We asked him why he didn't just watch it as it was being transmitted in that case....You could see the light beginning to dawn....Hilarity all round...
Thankfully he has now moved into the 21st century and fully understands it all now.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

You'll be shortening the life of any electrical equipment by repeatedly turning it on and off.
As for the fan and hard drive, they will power themselves off after a minute or so in standby.1 -
do you turn the freezer of at night,my wife switches plugs off, frightened of electricity escaping. But will have the electric blanket on all night.0
