Travel Insurance refusing to pay claim

Any advice please, trip booked to Italy since last year (all booked individually) Have annual travel insurance through Nationwide flex plus. Jet 2 have cancelled our flights, and were great, refunded us within 2 weeks. The problem is our accommodation and car hire have refused to refund us. We've tried the credit card route, still awaiting a response. Put a claim in through insurance who have denied the claim and said the accommodation provider should pay us! (tried several attempts with them already)and because the car hire have offered a voucher for next year they wont cover this either. Claim was admitted before FCO changed travel advice so thought this should be enough for insurance anyway. What should I do now? several thousand pound lost.

1. Wait to see if the "credit card" route pays out (assuming for accommodation?)
If not then claim again
2.Car Hire:- Have you used the credit card route for this also?
at present NW will not pay out if you are offered a voucher.
What is the timeline for the credit card?0
