Tesco home delivery, over doubled delivery costs for their vulnerable customers

My husband has been Shielding (and will continue to do so on his consultant's advice, regardless of national policy) and we've not paid a penny for any food deliveries since April (assorted supermarkets and a local food delivery service). Every single mouthful of food I've swallowed has been brought to my door by a collection of people and I've not paid them for taking that risk and doing that vital task for me - not even considering how much it costs to do so. I think that's pretty damn outstanding and I really will not mind paying for it in future. I owe them and will continue to be indebted.
If your Mum is actually vulnerable, do you not think a couple more quid is worth it for the risk she's not taking - and someone else is taking on her behalf?6 -
How much would it cost you in fuel and time to drive to the supermarket and shop for her, or for her to get a minicab to the store? Surely £4.50 is worthwhile to cover the cost of getting food delivered?
20 years ago it wouldn't have been an option to shop online and you would have to fetch it for her!4 -
Funny how vulnerable people want to be treated the same... but only when it works in their favour

Shielding is almost over, life is slowly getting back to normal - and she'll just have to get her purse out like the rest of us do.
The cost of Tesco running their delivery vehicles doesn't halve because she's vulnerable - the costs are the same, so should be shared equally.5 -
You can use clubcard points to buy your delivery saver, they give you three times the value. I'm on the midweek plan at £3.49 (currently not available to new customers), so that's just over a pound a month in points. Even the current £8 plan costs less than £3 in points, so less than a single delivery.3
