Can I remove this phone socket?

I'm renovating a back room, and this socket was on the back wall. I assume it is an extension for a phone socket. I no longer have a landline, and I'd like to just get rid of it to tidy up the room. If it's just an extension, I should be fine to disconnect it at the master socket and chop the cable, taping up and putting under the floorboards. Ideally of course i'd remove the cable totally but that might be a lot of disruptive work to trace it.
But - I don't know if it is actually an extension. I don't have a phone, or a landline contract to be able to test it. It wouldn't be some older kind of master socket would it?

Thats a home installed extension - you shouldn't have any problems disconnecting it. Just make sure you dis off the correct wires at the master socket but even then it shouldn't make much difference if you don't have an active landline - they'll have to install a new one if you decide to get one in the futureNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
