American Airlines USA holiday in 4 weeks

We  booked non refundable flights through a travel agent to fly indirect to Orlando in 4 weeks. American Airlines cancelled our flights and have rerouted us via Miami on different flights. Do we have to accept these flights or are we eligible for a refund? Any help would be much appreciated

You are eligible for a refund if your flight has been cancelled. You will need to speak to your travel agent to get it.

That sounds as if they didn't understand the situation correctly.  Of course, the flights are non-refundable if you simply change your mind, but that's not the case.  Get back to them and say "American Airlines have cancelled my original flights, and I do not find their replacement flights acceptable.  Therefore I would like to exercise my right to a full refund of the booking, as per EU261 law".
