Insurance Policy Responsibility

I have House & Contents Insurance with a well known high street store. After more than a year of problems with a water escape claim, I want to claim compensation. When I spoke to the policy seller, they said it wasn't them and I must speak to the insurance company.
Can anyone tell me who is responsible please? The company who sold the policy or the insurance company providing the cover? Thank you

Compensation for what.
Did the insurance company not pay for the repairs.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Check the policy documents they will detail the claims process. You may find they are unhappy that you have allowed a leak to continue for a year before trying to get it fixed, and reduce any payment accordingly.

Perhaps some more detailed information will get you some more detailed answers?ClaraD said:I have House & Contents Insurance with a well known high street store. Supermarkets and the like just white lable relatively basic insurance policies. They do nothing else apart from being paid a commisison for being the retailer.
In the past, you would have spoken to the broker to initiate a claim but nowadays you go to the insurer directly on plans like this.

Thank you for responding. The water escape was the fault of a poorly installed washer/dryer, which incidentally, is the same company which sells the insurance. They have done the work including a fitted kitchen. After 15 months they now need to refit parts of the kitchen, more new flooring amongst other things. They have admitted fault and are putting it right. The insurance company will be claiming the costs back from the Washing machine company. Thanks

So your insurance company or washing machine company? Have fitted a new kitchen? And now replacing parts and more new flooring?ClaraD said:Thank you for responding. I would assume its the insurance company that is doing the work as you said they are claiming costs back from the washing machine company??

No doubt true in most cases but at least one well known supermarket was much more active in product design, pricing etc before they moved off the white label model.dunstonh said:

You still havent said what you want the compensation for? Poor claims handling from the insurer? The general hassle from the maker or retailer of the washing machine?Thank you for responding.0
