Santander delay on payments, Beware!

On Friday last my payment from my Santander 123 account to Currencies Direct for £7992.62 was blocked for security reasons due to the sum of money being higher than my usual payment and access to my online banking including statements was also blocked.
I took the matter up with the phone helpline and was ultimately told that the access would be restored by close of banking on Friday .or the next days close of banking.
The payment is time sensitive but my "case" has joined a queue of blocked payments (and access) due to new Government regulations affecting online access security.
Is this just a Santander thing, as they clearly are unable to deal with security issues in a timely manner?
What ever the reason it is having a very negative impact on my ability to conduct my financial affairs.

  • I had a similar experience with Santander about 2 years ago.  I tried to make a transfer from my Santander account to a savings account, and it was blocked despite receiving a text msg to authorise the payment.  Rang them up to be informed that it will be released by end of day;  however, the payment was  not released and when I rang again, I was then informed that the payment was cancelled and to make it again.  Santander staff are equally as useless as their IT systems;  needless to say, I do not bank with them!!

    Thanks, not good to hear.
I tried lighting a bonfire 🔥 under the security call desk employee in order to get my position in the queue put forward as time sensitive, I shall see tomorrow how things go, all will be well I hope.

I don't know what ''new Government regulations affecting online access security'' is - do you?
There is CoP = confirmation of payee but that has nothing to do with the government.
I can see how your payment could be blocked - payment to a currency broker where it could be cashed and then disappear.
I think the telephony person told you a tale to get you off the phone.
The payment will go through (or not) once they complete their enquiries.
