hello
My daughter paid for and  was granted a visa to travel to Australia in February which is valid for 1 year.
Her plans to travel in June were cancelled due to Covid 19.
Where can she find out if she can get an extension as its looking unlikely she`ll get there at all this year ?

I doubt anywhere is offering refunds or extensions on visas.

What sort of visa did she pay for?  I've had two yearly visas and never paid for them.  To find out about any chance of extension would be the Australian web page she bought the visa from, unless she accidentally used a scam company.

    From Gov.uk:

    Visas

Subject to current restrictions, British citizens can usually get the following types of electronic visitor visa:

    • eVisitor visa direct from the Department of Immigration & Border Protection. There is no visa application charge or service fee for this
    • Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) via your travel agent or airline. There is no visa application charge, but a service fee of A$20 applies

What type of visa has she got?

    How much did she pay?

Where did she get the visa from?

Like comanadgo, I wonder if she used one of the companies that charge to get a visa for you.

There's loads of them about for all sorts of things like passport application/renewal, EHIC etc.

Or did she have a working visa?

The link below is from one of the agencies that arrange visas:

Where can I recover the financial damages of coronavirus?

This is currently not clear. This also depends on your situation, such as if you have booked a trip to Australia and which costs you have already made or still have to make. Some travel insurers and tour operators will pay out any damages that arise from coronavirus. However, a number of insurers and travel organisations have already said that they will not be able to compensate all of the damages, simply because there is not enough money. Visas for Australia that cannot be used cannot be cancelled. The immigration service does not cancel visas and will not refund unused visas.

    so bradders is probably correct.

  • Sounds like she has a working holiday visa £270. My daughter has the same. As far as I can work out there is little you can do - no refunds or cancellations. My daughter's expires on 21/01/2021 so she needs to be in Australia by then!! We are moving the flight and hoping that Australia allow foreign visitors from the end of this year.
