Buying American Shares like its own citizens

Yes, they did ask me to fill out a couple of forms before purchase, one of them was the W 8BEN.Steve182 said:
You've done nothing wrong, you can hold US shares in your ISA if your provider facilitates that. However if they are dividend paying shares you will receive only 85% of the dividend after deduction of withholding tax.
I assume they made you complete a W-8BEN form before they allowed you to buy them?0 -
Dividends are also taxed at 15% if the US company's shares are listed on LSE as I found out last year.
On what account, SIPP or ISA? Do you know what account doesn't need to pay for this?0 -
In a SIPP you should pay no withholding tax on US shares. I was charged when I had some in an ISA so I moved them to my SIPP and the next dividends were tax free. I have SIPPS with both AJ Bell and II and both are exempt from US withholding tax.PingPongSet said:Dividends are also taxed at 15% if the US company's shares are listed on LSE as I found out last year.

That’s what’s happened to all these value investors. Maybe they should move to where the fish are.” Charlie Munger, vice chairman, Berkshire Hathaway1
