CC help Newbie

So with the Corona virus happening this year and travel being up in the air i am thinking about applying for CC for the first time ever. Will only use it to pay for travel related plans so i know i will protected more if plans fall through. I know my first offer will be a small amount maybe just over £1000 credit so if i book flight or accommodation that is more than the card credit limit will it just get declined? I wish to book for next summer school holidays

  • What is your question? How old are you? Do you have any credit history? If you are young with no credit history then you will likely be offered only a few hundred £ limit. Not £1000...

You can probably top it up by Faster Payment just before you book the holiday.  They don't like accounts going into credit, but it's unlikely to cause a problem because it won't be for long.
  • The amount you spend obviously needs to be within any credit limit imposed by your CC provider.

If you do get a low amount, or insufficient to cover total cost, at least try to put the deposit on the card, and then the whole holiday cost will be covered under any relevant protections.

It doesn't negate the need for travel insurance, from time of booking, though.

Credit cards don't really offer any cover if "plans fall through", only if you aren't supplied with goods/services & the company is unable or refuses to refund you.
You don't have to put the entire cost on your credit card, so as long as they allow you to split the payment between a debit and credit card then you still get section 75 protection for the full amount.
