I have a holiday booked to Portugal on the 2nd of August. As it stands the FCO are still banning non essential travel. In addition to this, the hotel I had booked is not opening this summer. I know this as I have spoken to the hotel directly. The trip is booked with On The Beach. I have received no response from them and am unsure of what position I am in. Should I pay the outstanding balance in case FCO advice changes? Will I get a refund if I do/don’t pay the balance?

If you don’t pay the balance they will class it as you cancelling, this is frustrating I know but within their t’s and c’s.

It could be that they are trying to find alternative accommodation for you which again is allowed within the t’s and c’s.

I appreciate your balance must be due tomorrow judging by the dates? And how stressful it must be right now. Check your booking online make sure there is no messages waiting for you or that nothing has been sent to your junk/spam box on email as a first step. Some cancellations haven’t been happening until 10 days or so before according to other threads on here.

For customers who are due to travel to Portugal, the FCO does not currently consider Portugal on its list of exempt countries and therefore at the moment they are advising against all but essential travel. The Portuguese Government has expressed its disappointment at this decision and the expectation is that Portugal will be considered a safe destination to travel to in the very near future. Flights are currently still operating so we are contacting all customers who are due to travel to Portugal according to their date of departure to establish whether they want to travel or wish to cancel. We are grateful for your patience during this time. For further information please see the FCO website.
