Holiday Insurance help

Hi,
Booked a holiday to Portugal in Oct 2019 and was due to fly on the 29th July. Due to the FCO advise I have cancelled the flights and accomadation booked through Home and Away and started a claim via my travel insurance which states I can cancel if FCO advice states no travel within 28 days of the holiday. The flights were Easyjet and they have refunded the tax and offered no voucher/refund therefore i can claim the full amount. The apartment people have said no refund but if the apartment is available next year i could transfer the 9 day to then. I've looked at the dates and none suit however my travel insurance have said i must accept the offer and if i havnt used the dates within 1 year I can claim for a refund. Can they do that and insist on me accepting the offer if it doent suit my needs?

A lot of insurance companies are trying that. It’s not clear to me whether they will get off with it or not. Your route to challenge it is to put in a complaint, saying it isn’t a suitable alternative for you and if they don’t uphold your complaint go to the ombudsman. If that also fails your only recourse that I can see would be going to court.0
