How to block unused fireplace chimney?

Hi
Our fireplace is not used for last few years.
We would like to block the chimney above our fireplace to make the room warmer and sound proof.
There is a chimney cowl in place at the top.
How best to block off the space above fireplace?
Thanks

Have a look for "Chimney Sheep" - Not a personal recommendation, but they do appear to be quite popular in some circles.Alternatively, a plastic bag stuffed with an old pillow would work depending on the size of flue. It would be worth getting the chimney swept before plugging it. If you don't, you may well get a face full of soot when removing the sheep (or pillow).Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
I would get an offcut of celotex insulation(75-100mmm thick), cut it roughly to shape and bang it up the opening and seal around the edges with expanding foam0

Before you block it off fully I'd double check that it doesn't need some ventilation even with the cowl fitted0
