Evening,
Back in 2015 i ended up with a CCJ due to a dispute with a company,I did intend paying it back but at the time I was at the beginning of an illness that wasnt actually diagnosed for another 18 months and wasnt able to work more than a few hours a week.A debt collection agency ended up involved and I ended up with various "extras" on the amount, absolutely disgusting ways of adding on these amounts by the way ,original total was £2000 approx.Around 5 years on and ive been paying £40 per month which works out at around £2500 I guess. Today I found out that 6 years from the date of the ccj being put on my record it will be wiped off whether it has been satisfied or not,can anyone confirm this please? and also does this mean I can stop paying them? I recall around a year ago I rang them to ask how much i still owed and it was still over £2k which shocked me,i thought it would be down below a grand.Due to the awful tactics used by the debt collectors I would be very happy to not have to pay anymore once it disappears off my file.

It drops off your file after 6 years regardless of what you do, however it remains enforceable but after 6 years, they would have to go back to court to further enforce it, should you stop paying.

Do you still have a copy of the judgement?
If so, read it and see that it says a fixed figure and no mention of additional interest if it's not paid or paid by instalments.
Go through all your bank statement's, write down dates and amounts paid to them.
If that is more than the judgment, write to the company, set out the dates and payments, confirm how much the judgment was and ask for a refund and confirmation they have now written to the court to confirm the CCJ is settled in full. Retain a copy of the letter you send to them.
Just out of curiosity have you been paying the original company, the debt company or the court?Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
