The Co-operative bank have lost a cheque for £6.5k, they have accepted liability but WON’T reimburse

  • If the cheque hasn't been cashed then no one has lost any money. It seems like you'd want the Co-Op to credit your account for £6.5k out of good faith but they may not ever see that money again. They have admitted fault and anything you'd be out of pocket for eg interest charges, failed direct debit charges etc they should reimburse you for.

And now, with cheque-imaging, easy to pay in.

Provided it's for less than £1,000, or even less, if they go back to the pre-lockdown limits.

Most of the high street banks now use digital imaging at their counters - no limits.

Lots of big financial institutions seem obsessed with still issuing cheque's.
Not really moving with the times.

    Nothing wrong with cheques.
Easy for one-off payments, don't need to know payee account details (which is a faff that most don't need ever again), just the name.
    Simple to use.

So, actually, keeping up with the times.
    What's not to like exactly?
    Each to his own.
I have not used or received a cheque in around 15 years.

This might be so for their in-house processing. Their apps for the consumers all have limits of max £1,000. Pre-lockdown the limits were generally £500 or £750 max.
