Stuck "skirt" on pendant light fitting

OK. Rubber gloves didn't work and neither did WD40. Bought new cord grip from local hardware shop (about a quid) and fitted it in five minutes. (And I haven't overtightened it...)Just one question - showing what an electrical dunce I am. The two screw terminals inside the grip are identical/symmetrical/indistinguishable with no markings. I assume it does not matter which way round you connect the blue and brown wires from the ceiling rose cable? (It works ok and nobody has been electrocuted ... yet). Thanks again everybody0

Assuming this is a bayonet cap fitting (B22) then the polarity in the lampholder is not important. If it is an Edison Screw (E14/E27) and not the new all-insulated type then it does matter.

What do you call "cord grip"?I think the suggestion was to buy a new pendant. Then, whatever terminal it has, you connect brown to brown (or red) and blue to blue (or black)1

A bayonet bulb fits in two positions.

Thanks guys. It's a B22 and the two terminals are indistinguishable so I guessed it didn't matter.

The photo in the post from Norman_castle (the post after yours) was identified earlier as a "cord-grip". It seems to me that replacing that - which is the thing that is broken - is a lot more strightforward than replacing the whole pendant. I bought the "cord-grip" from local hardware shop (Thorns in Norwich) for £1.10grumbler said:What do you call "cord grip"?I think the suggestion was to buy a new pendant.
