Refunds to deceased account when bank has frozen the account.

My mother lived in rented accommodation (housing association for elderly). She paid in advance each month and she died 2 days after the rent was paid so presume she will be due a refund (quite a large sum of money). She paid by direct debit but now that the bank has frozen the account will the refund be rejected and if it is will I as executor be informed or will I have to get the association to write a cheque for the amount. She should also have a refund from the local council for the service she paid for also in advance.

I doubt that your mother will receive a refund for the month that he died, but others may disagree with me.

Rent will still apply until you have cleared her accommodation. There may also be deductions if the place is not retuned in the condition it was in when she first moved in, so your assumption may not be correct.
Any monies that are owed should be paid to her executor, not returned to her bank account.0 -
Rent paid for July on 1st July she died 3rd July flat was cleared and cleaned by 8th July and keys handed in and forms signed on same date. She had very little belongings due to moving house and downsizing from 3 bedroom to one bedroom very small flat with no kitchen as such (not required) and everything sorted out and gotten rid of at time (at her request) to save us doing it when she passed. I would of thought that she would have been entitled to it especially when it amounts to almost £1000.Socajam said:I doubt that your mother will receive a refund for the month that he died, but others may disagree with me.0 -
You should write to the housing association requesting a final balance statement, they are not going to automatically refund to a deceased persons account.0
