HELP.....mistaken identity

If anyone can advise me what to do I would be sooooo grateful! Back in December I received a letter from my insurer (dialdirect/ markerstudy) that someone was claiming I hit their vehicle one night at midnight in August. If I did not respond with evidence it was not me then they would pay the claim. So of course I supplied photos and evidence that it was not me. I then got a message from them saying it was mistaken identity the incident happened miles away from where I was. They told me to wait a few days and the case would be closed. I didn’t think anymore of it until January when I had to renew my car insurance and my premium had doubled, it turns out the claim was still against my name on the database. I emailed back and forth with my van insurance company for a couple of months and finally I got an email back showing the amended database entry. This week it was time to renew my van policy and I am having the same issue again. I don’t know what to do I can’t afford for my premiums to go up especially if I haven’t made a claim! Any help?

Grrr… typed a fully explained reply and tabbed to the Forum Home link rather than Post Comment.
In short then... a claim was made against you but it was successfully defended and closed non-fault with no outlay. Most insurers won't care about a single such incident but would care if you didn't declare it and they subsequently found it on CUE etc.
Some will remove such records from CUE but the majority will stick to their guns and say a claim was made - in a similar way to if someone hit your parked and unattended car in the supermarket carpark and left their details.

This is not helpful because the OP didn't do anything, was nowhere near anyone else's car. You are speaking as if something actually happened, when it didn't!Sandtree said:Grrr… typed a fully explained reply and tabbed to the Forum Home link rather than Post Comment.

Can't you actually SPEAK to someone at the insurance company on the phone? I always find that's the best way to deal with matters like this. Nothing actually happened so why has it been reported to CUE? This needs to get cleared up but it can only be done by your insurance company. They need to get onto it straight away! And if the database has been amended, why is your renewal so very high? Have you tried a few different insurance companies?
A similar thing happened to me and the only way to get it sorted was to deal with the original insurance company. By phone. Why your insurance company would actually leave wrong information on CUE when they said it had been amended is a mystery. If all else fails, you can contact the Financial Ombudsman who does deal with cases of useless insurance companies. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Many claims don't involve the insured doing anything.MalMonroe said:

There are lots who find the fact you can be totally innocent and end up having a claim or other reportable incident unfair but life generally isn't and for getting a poor deal a non-fault claim is one of the least worst outcomes. Most insurers won't care about it if it is disclosed, non-disclosure will be a big problem and some insurers will load premiums as ultimately these things still cost money and their records show that statistically someone with one event have a slightly higher occurrence of other events than someone who's never had a non-fault incident.

As it has been established it was a mistaken registration and you were not involved your insurers should have removed it from the cue database at which point there is no need to declare it to other insurers. Go back to your insurers to raise a formal complaint with the expected resolution that they remove the claim from the cue database. If they don't do it in 8 weeks escalate to the financial ombudsman.
If they claim not to be able to remove it they are talking rubbish, it takes about 2 minutes for the person with admin privileges to remove it.1 -
As it has already been mentioned above, your insurer can and should remove it from cue as you were not involved in the incident and it was mistake identity. It should not stay on there under your details as your insurer would have gone back to the third party insurance and asked them to redirect their claim. If they advise you that it has to stay on cue but shows as information only then this is completely incorrect, as that would still reflect as your vehicle having been involved and is technically on your driving history. They will be able to remove it from CUE0
