How long should I keep court documents

Hi all,
Years ago, we rented out our home. The tenants damaged it and we took them to a small claims court (the cost of the damage being bigger than their deposit) and won the case. The tenants did not appeal and paid up, so all good. Now I'm having a clear out and I'd like to know how long I'm to keep the court documents for, ie the correspondence, evidence, Scott Schedule etc? It has no nostalgic value whatsoever and I'd like it to stop taking up room in our house. Thank you.

How many years ago? You could scan or photograph them although it sounds like a resolved problem which is very unlikely to return or need evidencing.

If you've won and they've paid then that's it all over and done with. Sling them out.0

I don't see any reason to keep them if it's done and dusted.0

I'd scan the court order to pay and dump the lot via the shredder

Generally 6 years is a good baseline - but if it's settled there no further use0

Thanks. It was 20120

Assuming some of the costs might be usable (in future - not against current tax rules) for CGT, keep the records until you sell.Or chuck away if you don;t mind paying extra unnecessary taxes.0

That's a good point. They won't be in this case though as we were renting out our our home - our only property - and went back to live in it again afterwards.0
