How much does a Ford Joint Service and MOT cost?

Options
Hi, I wondered how much was the 'start from' cost to have your car MOT and serviced at the same time/day ? I want to confirm if it is any cheaper doing it all in one go, than doing them separetly. I recently had my service only done which roughly cost £370. It was £210 for just the sevice alone, and £160 for the other bits they had to do to my car. Would I be saving any money booking them in at the same time?
Thanks!

It depends entirely on the particular garage and what deals they're doing.
Bear in mind that if you do them together you're saving yourself a lot of time and hassle.

An MOT is £55 absolute max.

A service.... an hour's labour and the cost of the oil and filter, upwards, depending on what is actually being done.

No, they can't do the service and MOT simultaneously - the test is a standalone thing, usually done in a separate area equipped for it. Normally, the test is done first, then any minor issues can be "Pass, Rectify at Station" (PRS), meaning it only has one test. Also, if it fails spectacularly, you get the choice to decide whether to bother with the service...

I think the OP means both on the same day, but you knew that anyway, yes?

    Did they? We're guessing.
It may have been a "Do I really need pay twice for the same hour's labour, since it's up in the air for the service anyway..." question.

Could have been, but the best answer is Car_54.

  • Hi all, sorry to clarify, I mean price wise, some claim it is cheaper to book these in to be done on the same day at a Ford dealership as they might offer a deal? Rather than for example book the MOT in for March and Service in for July. I wondered if anyone found it cheaper to get MOT and Service done in one go, rather than bring the car back a few months later

If all goes smoothly with the test, then there's very unlikely to be any cost difference.

They'll charge you for the service... and they'll charge you their standard price for the MOT. Obvs, it's less hassle to do both at the same time.

But if there's work needed for the test, then there may be labour savings by doing that at the same time as the service, since the car's in the workshop and on the ramp anyway.

I remember someone saying that they had been to the training centre of a national rapid fit chain. They were taught that you could push the customer to a £300 bill and they would agree to it. Push them beyond £300 and they would get a second opinion elsewhere. I think that combining the two into a single episode reduces the amount that they can add on before you get unhappy. Say you have a service for £150 they can get away with charging another £150. If six months later they charge £40 for an MOT they can charge you another £260. Combining service and MOT  you would expect a bill of £190. If they added the same £410 extra increasing the bill from £190 to £600 you would flip your lid.

The service was £210 which, from Ford, is pretty much kick the tyres and change the oil and filter.
