Hi, I am pretty new to all things green and have for the last couple of years been trying to brighten up my garden a little, although I do only have a few raised beds and pots. (Have been trying talk OH into moving house and am getting there  bit by bit, hence the all my pots!)  My mum was always my go to with what to do and how to look after things but I sadly lost her a while ago. I have two really large hosta’s ,I love them and guard them with my life against the slimy slugs but I think it’s time they were cut back a bit. Could any of you kind people advise when it is the best time to do this and how? I would like to take some cuttings to pot on, of course.. Any advice gratefully received.

You don't take really cuttings of Hostas ..... you propagate them by division.
In the autumn, or in early spring just dig them up and cut the root into pieces, each with a bit of foliage or a growing tip on .. Then replant the pieces in the ground/pots and they will soon grow and bulk up again.
