SORN & Tax Question
A relative has been given a car from a deceased estate. The car has been transferred to them by the executor this week using snail mail and they have the V5C/2. They don't want to use / insure the car until next month when the tax runs out on their current car and it will be going to the great car park in the sky. The question is if they declare SORN using the V5C/2 reference will they be able to tax it for next month using the same V5C/2 reference if a new V5 has not been issued or will they have to wait for the V5C to come through ? If a new V5 has been issued but not received can they still tax it ? They were just going to leave it until next month and didn't understand the continuous insurance thing.

You can get the V5c changed online very quickly (you may have to tell a slight fib you will understand what i mean when you go online) but they will have the new V5c back to you by the end of next week. They weren't dealing with mail (not sure if that is still the case) but probably best avoiding paperwork.
So SORN it now and crack on.
PM me if you like and I will explain.0 -
Which is a way of getting round the system but not answering the question. And as the paperwork is already in the post what happens when it does get processed as we know DVLA are very capable of messing up the simplest of operations ?0

If it is not SORNed it must be insured. Is it still insured under the deceased policy if so it won't pop up in the system if not best SORN it pronto if you have a photo of the V5c with the 11 digit (?) number they require. If not just cross your fingers.0
