just got a Cashminder (ie a basic bank account) with Co-operative bank and card etc has arrived
however to registering for online banking one needs to do a Q&A from credit file and that were i am stuck.
they as 2 questions and give you multiple choice to chose the correct answer e.g.
Q1 - In which month and year did you open one of your current accounts?
03/2011
01/2005
10/2005
03/2007
NONE OF THE ABOVE / DOES NOT APPLY
03/2011
01/2005
10/2005
03/2007
NONE OF THE ABOVE / DOES NOT APPLY
Q2 - Please provide the first name of someone you live with, who is registered to vote?
PQ
AB
TS
HU
NONE OF THE ABOVE / DOES NOT APPLY
PQ
AB
TS
HU
NONE OF THE ABOVE / DOES NOT APPLY
now i am a bit confused -
re Q1 - i have had at least 3 different current accounts in the last 20yrs and dont remember the month/year i opened any of them as it been so long ie over 10yrs in all cases, what do i do?
re Q2 - they say the 'first name' but the list only has two letter, so is that the 2 letters of the first name of the person i live with and are names only shown with 2 letters?
Any help or comment or suggestion will be most appreciated pls

1. Think hard and take a guess.
2. Do any of the initials look like someone you live with?Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.2 -
Not sure anyone can add anything else.
You need to think about the first one.
You could not bother with the online banking, could you not get another account elsewhere to give you online banking ?2 -

You could not bother with the online banking, could you not get another account elsewhere to give you online banking ?yeah, was hoping someone else had to do the same and cld at least confirm that Q2 was indeed the initials of the person one lives with or the 1st 2 letters etc that why i askedand yeah i cld not bother with the online banking but that means i will then only be able use the account if i went to a branch everytime and that also means i can use the mobile app as to use the mobile app you have be registered to use online banking etc etc0 -

Q2 must?! Be the initials of the person. If none say none.
Q1 you have time to make an informed decision but if the answer to 2 was no then you had five try’s at Q1 regardless and all wrong!? It’s not trickery just try and answer the questions. Maybe ask for another try.
I had a security alert on a TSB current account and got blocked so had to phone them and they asked me several questions from my credit file in real time, like who was your gas supplier in 2012, what current account did you open in 2013. Absolutely mad expecting me to know with all the times I’ve changed suppliers, accounts etc. So I feel your pain. They are idiots to use this method so do you want to bank with idiots?0 -
If you go into your CRA reports - and click on each of your current accounts - it will likely give you the opening dates there. Tally up what you see in your files with the question, and you'll find the answer. The data after all that it's using to ask you these questions comes from those files, so the answers must be there.2

I second the above. Get copies of your credit reports and see what dates line up with account openings. Otherwise you can activate online banking by phoning them up - that's what I had to do when I opened my account1
-
And don't forget - in both Q1 AND Q2 - the answer CAN be 'none of the above'. It's designed to catch out those who are guessing. As I say - check your credit files - that's where the data for their questions has come from. Your answers have to match your data.1

They are idiots to use this method so do you want to bank with idiots?i've tried using the 2 character initials closest to the person i live with and tried hard as to work out the bank account or account they are asking for including trying to say none for Q2 etc but what makes it worse, each time the ans choices are slightly different with some new ones and old ones that were in the list on the last try. Also as you said whomever came up with this method to confirm someone's identity are truly idiots and need to be strung-up, as it's unfair and unrealistic to expect ppl to remember bank accounts opening month and year and other similar details after in some cases more than 10yrs!0
