Means test for social care!

Hi,
my elderly dad has dementia and will have  free carers at home under reablement , twice a day, am & pm! After 6 weeks if he wants to continue he will have a financial assessment to see if hes eligible for help funding it. We've been told that eventually he'll need care in a home, maybe the next year or two! I want to know when that time comes will he be re-assessed or will the original means test stand whether or not he needs the care home  later rather than sooner?

That depends on a number of factors. The main one being the status of his home. If he own the property he lives in it will not be included in the assessment for home visits, but it could be for residential care. I see from an older thread your mother also has dementia does she still live with him?

For my dad the financial assessment took place every year the council we're paying for care.

If you were thinking that he might give away some savings in order to be eligible for more help, it won’t work. Deliberate deprivation of assets will mean he will be assessed as if he still had them.
