Ryanair to Portugal

We have flights booked to Faro on 2nd August returning 2 weeks later with Ryanair. We cannot take these flights due to FCO advice and the need to self isolate on our return. We had an annual travel insurance when we booked the flights in January. We have renewed this insurance with the same company. What should we do? Cancel flights? Just not turn up? Start an insurance claim now or wait? The insurance company have said we would not be covered for Covid related incidents but we believe this is against standard industry practices. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Firstly do not cancel the flights unless you are willing to take the financial hit because it will be classed as disinclination to travel.
Secondly if the flights go ahead and you choose not to go again this will be classed as disinclination to travel and you will not be refunded for these (a very very outside shot your insurer may pay out based on FCO advice but seems unlikely when they have already stated they will not cover for COVID).
At the moment I would just leave things as they are.1 -
Are you going back to Durham? They don't appear to have the same rules as everyone else there so you'll be OK
- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's
- When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.
- "Free parking" doesn't mean free of rules. Check the rules and if you don't like them, go elsewhere
- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's and their rules apply.
