An update: i did an auto (service) clean on the hotpoint. Added vinegar and baking soda - was a long wash and assume it was hot. temp The smell seems to have gone but it has only been a day. I shall keep monitoring.
A small piece of fabric came out of the wash (it was a piece of a garment obviously stuck in the machine)- i wonder if this was the cause of the smell - I guess I'll know within days - I had no idea this piece of fabric was in the machine as no error code appeared to show a blockage.....you've all been so helpful - thanx0 -
Is your drain pipe fitted so it's like an upside down U? With the top of the U close to the top of the machine? If not then what will happen is when the pump stops any water left in the pipe drains back into the bottom of the washing machine and goes stagnant , hence the eggy smell
Eggy smell is the smell of stagnant water1 -
thanks very much - when you say drain pipe do you main drain hose? the grey hose fro back of machine? Mine does to undersink area ...am i looking for an U-Bend under the sink area?0
